This page is meant to be a resource for those interested in oya/μπιμπίλα/bibilia/needle lace patterns specific to the edging of women's scarves/head coverings from Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, and related areas.
This is a project started by myself and my friend Brenna MacCrimmon. We are starting with pictures we took of her long string of oya, which was given to her by fellow oya aficionado Linda Robinson as a sample of what was available in the Istanbul markets at the time (early 2000's).
The first set of images show sections of the string. Sorry that some of these pictures are blurry. Better quality close-ups of most of these are included in the second section.
The third section has pictures of oya directly on scarves. So far, these are from a small section of my collection( unless otherwise noted. Brenna and I will be posting more examples of scarves with oya in the near future, so check back often!
If you have any images you would like to add to this collection, please let me know.
Here are most of the pieces from the string photographed singly.
Here are some images taken directly from scarves. This is just a drop in the bucket of the scarves I have yet to photograph. These scarves are from my collection, unless otherwise noted.
